Experimental Investigation of Gamma Stirling Engine Coupling to Convert Thermal to Cooling Energy in Different Laboratory Conditions

Image
Abstract The main aim of this research is to experimentally investigate the two coupled identical ST500 gammatype Stirling engines and convert thermal energy to cooling energy. Using a new structure and two coupled Stirling engines at different temperatures and pressures and use of biomass fuel within the 4-8 bar average pressure range of the first engine hot source, the 1-4 bar average+ pressure range of the second engine cold source, and Stirling hot engine temperature range of 480-580 ÂșC, the effective cooling is obtained in the cold engine. In doing tests, attempts were made to reach lower than 9 percent error results in different parts of engine, including insulation, fluid leakage, belt loosing, and measurement devices. According to the obtained results, 8 bars increase in the average pressure range of the gas in the first engine hot source, a 1 bar reduction in the average pressure range of the gas in the second engine cold source, the increased temperature of the hot sour...

Internal Combustion Engine Modeling Framework in Simulink: Combustion Modeling

Image
Abstract An internal combustion engine modeling framework has been developed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment to allow engine component blocks to be connected in a physically representative manner to reduce the model build time. Each component block, derived from physical laws, interacts with other blocks according to block connection. In this series paper, detailed combustion modeling is presented among several engine subsystems. In the engine modeling framework, combustion is represented by a spherical flame propagating from the spark plug, and the burn rate is correlated to combustion chamber geometry, laminar flame speed, and turbulence. To accurately predict the burn rate, the quasi-dimensional model requires tuning. The combustion model has been computationally validated in a previous study and will be experimentally validated with real engine test data in the next series paper Read More About This Article:  https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme/fulltext/EME.000582.php R...

New Battery Management System and its Application

Image
Abstract In this paper, application of a Battery Management System (BMS) with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is realized by using solar power. Proposed system is designed for four different 12V, 60Ah batteries used by general purpose as an uninterruptable power supply unit for electronics devices. Furthermore, in developed application, with respect to state of charge of each battery, either batteries are used as energy supply or batteries are charged by solar power. In addition to BMS, battery charger system in order to regulate battery charge voltage is applied. With the application in this paper, by controlling each batteries charge level, an efficient way to use of batteries are provided in order to have a long life Read More about this Article:  https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme/fulltext/EME.000574.php Read More  Crimson Publishers Google Scholar  Articles:  https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=view_citation&hl=en&user=2eS4vdYAA...

Thermal Analysis of a Workpiece Material in an Electric Discharge Process_Crimson Publishers

Image
Thermal Analysis of a Workpiece Material in an Electric Discharge Process by Debabrata Datta* in Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering_ Crimson Publishers Open Access Journals Abstract Go to EDM is a non-conventional thermo electric process wherein material erodes from the workpiece by a series of discrete sparks between the tool and workpiece immersed in a dielectric medium. This discharge occurs in a voltage gap between the electrode and workpiece. Thermal analysis is essential to quantify the material removal rate and also to know the performance of the material with respect to the defined process. A substantial research has been carried out to qualify the material under process. However, due to complex processes involved an Advanced Analysis is mandatory. Present study explains how one can understand the behavior of a workpiece for participating in EDM process. Thermal analysis model accurately predicts the temperature profile, material removal rate and quality of the pro...
