Image
Influence of Abrasive Water Jet Turning Operating Parameters on Surface Roughness of ABS and PLA 3D Printed Parts Materials by Fuat Kartal* in Crimson Publishers Abstract In this study, PLA and ABS materials produced by 3D printing with 14mm diameter and 300mm length were processed by turning with abrasive water jet machining. The effect of processing parameters with abrasive water jet on the surface roughness was investigated. The processing parameters are nozzle feed rate (60-210mm/min), abrasive flow rate (150-225g/min), chuck turning speed and nozzle distance. Experimental studies have shown that the increase in nozzle feed rate (from 50 to 200mm/min), abrasive flow rate (from 150 to 225g/min) and nozzle distance (from 3 to 9mm) results in average surface roughness values increased by 26%, 35% and 19%, respectively. It was concluded that the increase in the rotation speed of the mirror (from 75RPM to 225RPM) resulted in a 17% decrease. https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme/pd...

Seismic Resistance of Turbine Equipment of Powerful Nuclear Power Plants_Crimson Publishers

Image
Seismic Resistance of Turbine Equipment of Powerful Nuclear Power Plants by Serhii Palkov* and Ihor Palkov in Crimson Publishers Abstract: The paper considers the methods of the design analysis of the seismic resistance for the components of operating nuclear power plants in at three-dimensional setting using the finite element method. An algorithm to confirm the seismic resistance of equipment by a calculation method is proposed, and the limits of its application are determined. A mathematical model of the equipment is developed, and an example of the determination of natural frequencies and stresses for a three-dimensional structure is given. Two main types of calculation were used–static and dynamic. The seismic resistance of the equipment was estimated on the example of the K-1000-60/1500 steam turbine condenser and calculated at a seismic intensity of 6 points on the MSK-64 seismic intensity scale. In the course of solving this problem, results of the stress distribution...

Editorial on Additive Manufacturing_Cimson Publishers

Image
Editorial on Additive Manufacturing by Ananthapadmanaban Dattaguru* in Crimson Publishers Editorial: Additive Manufacturing is a buzz word in technology for the last few years. Most of the manufacturing was being done by both addition and removal of material like casting, welding, and machining. In recent times, mankind has realized that each bit of material saved is very crucial for the health of mother earth. Hence the thrust on additive manufacturing. Though the term additive manufacturing is new, some of the technologies like solid state welding are being used commercially for a few decades. The crucial difference is that CAD models are being generated after laborious research and the final product alone is manufactured layer by layer using additive manufacturing techniques. https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme/pdf/EME.000588.pdf For More open access journals in  Crimson Publishers please click on link:  https://crimsonpublishers.com

A Review on Leader-Follower Based Path Optimization in Vehicle Platooning_Crimson Publishers

Image
A Review on Leader-Follower Based Path Optimization in Vehicle Platooning by Jeya Mala D* and Pradeep Reynold A in Crimson Publishers Introduction: In self-driving cars, especially when the vehicles are travelling as a cluster in which the first vehicle acts as a leader and the other vehicles act as followers, there is a need for proper communication on the selection of path. This will help the vehicles to reach their destination without any intermittent communication hurdles that leads to accidents and traffic congestions. To achieve this, the vehicles on the road are formed as a platoon in which the first vehicle will send the communication to all the follower vehicles to line up behind the leader. This will help them to automatically form a string formation to stay close to each other on the highway without any traffic difficulties. This survey report gives an overview on how nature inspired techniques could be applied to achieve vehicle platoons to smoothly run on the hig...

Internal Combustion Engine Modeling Framework in Simulink: Combustion Modeling

Image
Abstract An internal combustion engine modeling framework has been developed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment to allow engine component blocks to be connected in a physically representative manner to reduce the model build time. Each component block, derived from physical laws, interacts with other blocks according to block connection. In this series paper, detailed combustion modeling is presented among several engine subsystems. In the engine modeling framework, combustion is represented by a spherical flame propagating from the spark plug, and the burn rate is correlated to combustion chamber geometry, laminar flame speed, and turbulence. To accurately predict the burn rate, the quasi-dimensional model requires tuning. The combustion model has been computationally validated in a previous study and will be experimentally validated with real engine test data in the next series paper Read More About This Article:  https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme/fulltext/EME.000582.php R...

Crimson Publishers-Free-Piston Engine (FPE) Technology with Different Applications-

Image
Free-Piston Engine (FPE) Technology with Different Applications by Boru Jia in  Evolutions in Mechanical Engineering The free-piston engine (FPE) is a linear engine in which the requirement for a crankshaft system is eliminated and the piston assembly has a free and linear motion[1]. First proposed around 1930, FPEs were in use in the period 1930-1960 as air compressors and gas generators and provided some advantages over presenttime conventional combustion engines and gas turbine systems[2]. They are known to have a greater thermal efficiency (40-50%) than an equivalent and more conventional reciprocating engine (30-40%)[3]. A driving force behind the interest in free-piston engine generators is the automotive industry’s increasing interest in hybrid-electric vehicle technology. Much work has been undertaken by number of research groups worldwide, including the authors’ group, to explore the operation characteristics of FPEs[4,5]. https://crimsonpublishers.com/eme...
